Note:

Regarding the above posted Home Invasion Robbery: investigators are actively pursuing all leads and tips and will advise me as to any outcomes, updates or information that can be shared with the community. Until then, I unfortunately have no further information.

On September 30, at approximately 11 pm, a woman driving in the area of Sunset Blvd and Capri noticed a white sedan with two males inside, one possibly wearing a bandana (no further description), driving behind her as she drove up the neighborhood to her residence. Although not initially concerned, she became more alarmed when they followed her onto her residential street of Sorento Drive. Her entrance gate opened and they followed her onto her property. They exited their vehicle and started walking towards her. Frightened, she started honking her horn at which time family exited her house and triggered motion lights. The suspects then fled out the gate.

Sadly, this is not an uncommon ‘MO.’ So this particular note is especially directed to you ladies. Always, always, ALWAYS, drive with your doors locked and pay attention to your surroundings, especially if coming home later in the evening. There are bad guys out there that specifically look for lone females, often attracted by a glittering wedding rings or other jewelry seen from the cab of your car (tip: drive with your rings turned inward toward your palm to attract less attention). If you make random turns and they are still behind you, call 911 (in this case it would be more than OK to use your cell phone while driving). If you suspect you’re being followed, go to a well-lit public location (ideally, the police station if possible). Don’t let yourself get boxed into a cul-de-sac. If you do find yourself boxed in, start honking. Try to get as much attention as possible in the hopes that it will frighten them away – as it did in this case. If, however, they’ve already approached you and they are armed or threaten you, then please keep in mind that property can always be replaced, lives cannot be. I can’t tell you what to do, since every incident is different, but trust your instincts. A general suggestion is that you should comply with their demands if they are interested in stealing your property. But if they’re interested in stealing you, then fight and scream with all your might. But only you can decide at that moment, given the circumstances, what your instincts tell you to do. But give it some thought, and have a plan, and make sure the lovely ladies in your lives are aware of this possible crime method.

All the best,

Senior Lead Officer Maria Gray
