Brentwood Newsstand owner Marck Sarfati is still plying his trade at his stand in the parking lot adjacent to Whole Foods on San Vicente Blvd.
This, despite his official Sept. 30 date to vacate having passed. Sarfati told Brentwood News he planned on staying put and waiting to be evicted. Shortly before the end of September he mailed an October rent check to Whole Foods, which the company subsequently cashed.
“I hoped that they’d forgotten the whole thing,” Sarfati said, but it turned out that wasn’t the case. Sarfati and his attorney had hoped to negotiate for him to stay on the premises for an additional 18 months, but after conversations between Sarfati’s and Whole Foods’ attorneys, his lease was only extended one month.
That means Sarfati will have to now vacate by Oct. 31, but Sarfati says he plans to stay on and wait for Whole Foods to evict him by taking him to court and filing an unlawful detainer against him.
For now, Sarfati is still going to work every day, although that might change come Nov. 1.
