Archer Marches on With State Volleyball Playoff Win

In a milestone-making moment, the victory marks the school’s first ever state playoff win in any sport.

The Archer School for Girls in Brentwood moved onto to the second round of the CIF Division IV State Volleyball Playoffs with a resounding 3-0 win (25-16, 25-10, 25-16) over Chatsworth Charter High School on Nov. 15 at Park Century School gym in Culver City.

Playing with four sophomores in the lineup and receiving stellar defensive play from seniors Cydney Davis and Macoy Ohlbaum, the girls fed off the energy of the Archer fans to notch the first ever state playoff win in any sport at the school.

Archer, now 24-7 and the #2 seeded team in the South Region, is one of 16 schools that remain in the Division IV State playoffs.  Next up for the girls is a rematch of the CIF-SS Division 7 semifinals against Heritage Christian School (Northridge), a match Archer came back to win in five sets at Heritage Christian.

Their next match will take place Sat. Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. also at Century School Gym, 3939 Landmark Street, Culver City, 90232.

The Archer athletic department and volleyball team are calling on the Archer Faithful to “Pack and Purple out the Park” on Saturday night.

Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for students.

The State playoffs, split into six divisions, consists of teams from the 10 sections that make up the 1,514 schools in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Qualifying teams play within their respective regions in hopes of advancing to the CIF State Championship on Dec. 2 to be played at Santiago Canyon College in Orange.
