My wife and I hosted another one of those “Getty Scholar Dinners” I’ve been writing about in recent months.
If this idea is of interest to you, we’d like to invite you to join in and host a dinner.
By way of background, The Getty hosts 35-40 Getty Scholars at any one time. These are mostly PhDs – very smart people from all around the world.
While here, they all live in the same apartment building, near Westgate and Sunset.
The Getty Scholars spend several months at The Getty studying something of great importance.
I am not smart enough to explain it all – so you’ll just have to participate in one of these dinners and hear it all for yourself.
Even if you know nothing about art – which certainly describes me – you will learn a lot and it’s a nice way to serve as ambassadors for Brentwood. If you are interested in art, you will really like this.
Here’s how it works:
You and a few friends from Brentwood agree to host a dinner. Pick a date and place.
We think 4-6 individuals from Brentwood is a good number. The Getty will identify 4-6 from The Getty who will attend. So you might have anywhere from 8-12, total.
Keep it simple – pot luck, organized by you and your local friends, is quite acceptable. Include some wine, beer and soft drinks.
The Getty Scholars will come to your place at the appointed date and time. We did one on a recent Sunday, starting at 5 p.m. Everyone was home at an early hour.
That’s it!
If you want to host a dinner for visiting Getty Scholars, let me know and I’ll send your information to The Getty. A young lady there will coordinate schedules. Send me an email: jeff.hall@brentwoodnewsla.com.
