Mail Theft, Local DEA Agent Discusses Meth, Fentanyl Use on Brentwood Community Council Agenda

Wed, June 9, 2021 7-9 p.m. via Zoom (https://us02web.zoom.us/j/8763898439, Meeting ID: 876 389 8439 Dial In: 1 669 900 6833)

By Sam Catanzaro

Local mail theft and an update from a DEA narcotics officer about meth and Fentanyl use in the West Los Angeles-area are among the items to be discussed at the Brentwood Community Council (BCC) meeting this week.

The meeting, which will take place Wednesday, June 9 from 7-9p.m. via Zoom, will kick off with the naming of Brentwood Neighborhood of the Month, this month Upper Mandeville Home Owners Association President John Binder.

Later in the meeting a member of the West LAPD Narcotics Team and a lead agent from the DEA will discuss the use of meth and Fentanyl in the West Los Angeles area.

There will then be a discussion with Tosha Dennis, Assistant Postal Inspector for Brentwood, about mail theft in the community. The public can submit question ahead of time by emailing info@BrentwoodCommunityCouncil.org.

For those who cannot attend the meeting, the BCC recently provided some advice to avoid mail theft, seen below.

1. Use a locking mailbox or a locking mailbox insert for single family homes.
2. Install security cameras near your mailbox or in mail rooms of multifamily complexes.
3. Don’t put up the red flag on stand alone mailboxes – it might also notify a thief you are mailing valuables or checks.
4. Don’t send checks by mail and select “no paper statements” when possible.
5. Consider using a secure package delivery location, like the Amazon locker at Whole Foods on San Vicente
6. Some multifamily mailbox systems are placed and operated by the USPS. If yours is an older USPS system, consider having the system re-keyed by the USPS.
7. Pick up your mail promptly and try to send mail near the expected pick up time.
