Buyer’s Identity Remains a Mystery as Property Sells Above Asking Price and Skirts Mansion Tax
Angela Lansbury’s Brentwood mansion at 635 North Bonhill Road sold extremely quickly once it was put on the market as reported by The Dirt.com. The home, which had been lived in by actress Angela Lansbury for nearly 40 years, was listed for sale earlier this month and sold quickly, fetching $500,000 over the asking price.
Interestingly, the home was sold for just one dollar under $5 million, as selling it for an additional dollar would have triggered an additional $200,000 in taxes under L.A.’s new mansion tax regulations. The identity of the buyer remains unknown, but the property was acquired by an LLC, a common practice used by developers who may intend to demolish or extensively renovate the existing structure.
Lansbury’s home is located in one of Brentwood’s most coveted hillside areas, surrounded by lavish mansions that have fetched tens of millions of dollars. Given the location, it’s possible that the buyer may choose to demolish the modest, outdated home and build a larger, more modern structure in its place.
A tall wall provides privacy for the house’s front, and the pleasantly unpretentious interiors have big windows and terracotta tile flooring throughout. Among the four bedrooms, the master suite stands out due to its large bathroom with a freestanding tub. A simple kitchen opens to the family room, which leads to a sunny terrace. In the back, Lansbury herself planted an appealing English-style garden, as well as a sizable patio and a dark-bottomed swimming pool.
The Beverly Hills Estates‘ Mick Partridge and Coldwell Banker’s Maksym Khomin listed the property. Mick Partridge also represented the buyer.
