Brentwood Weekly Crime Report April 25 to May 2, 2023

Report Comes Courtesy of Senior Lead Officer Matthew Kirk

During the Brentwood Community Council Meeting, Senior Lead Officer Matthew Kirk had a list of criminal activity in the city of Brentwood.

Burglary:

Between April 12 and April 30, a suspect entered a residence on the 300 block of Beloit Ave but was scared away by the resident. No property was taken, and the suspect is described as a female Hispanic, 5’8” and between 25-30 years of age.

Between April 24 and April 26, a suspect smashed the lock off a side gate on the 500 block of S. Burlingame Ave to gain entrance to the side garage door. Once inside the garage, the suspect forced open the entry door into the house, ransacked the residence, and stole financial documents and a motorcycle.

On April 26, suspects entered an office building on Wilshire Blvd and removed a purse containing credit cards and US currency from an unlocked office door.

Residents are reminded to secure ladders in a locked garage or storage shed to prevent suspects from gaining access to the second story. It is also important to always lock doors and windows when leaving the house and use alarms and security cameras if available. Access to the electrical panel should also be locked to prevent power from being shut off without the homeowner’s knowledge.

Robbery:

On May 2, a suspect knocked on a resident’s door on the 3000 block of Corda Drive and demanded to be shown to the victim’s room. The suspect followed the victim to the bedroom and into the closet, where he demanded that the victim open a lockbox containing US currency. Another suspect ransacked the bedroom while this was happening. Both suspects fled out of the rear bedroom slider. The victim described the first suspect as a male white, 6’2”, wearing a blue hoody and blue jeans, and the second suspect as a male white, 5’10” and 180 lbs.

ADW (Assault With Deadly Weapon):

No incidents were reported.

BFMV (Burglary from Motor Vehicle)/ TFMV (Theft from Motor Vehicle):

On May 1, suspects entered an unsecured vehicle on the 400 block of S. Barrington Ave and removed an iPad, passport, and tools.

Residents are reminded not to leave key fobs in their vehicles and to avoid leaving valuables inside, especially if visible from outside the vehicle. Even if parked in a secure parking garage, cars can still be broken into. Additionally, owners of 2010-2021 Kia or Hyundai models are advised to use a steering wheel lock and/or an ignition immobilizer to prevent theft, as the ignition of these vehicles can be easily defeated.

GTA (Grand Theft Auto):

Between April 28 and April 30, a 1948 Indian Chief motorcycle was taken from a garage in a home burglary on the 500 block of S. Burlingame Ave. On April 30 and May 1, a 1957 Chevy Corvette was taken from the street on the 1100 block of N. Kenter Ave.

Residents are advised to never leave their cars unlocked and to never leave their keys inside the vehicle. To prevent theft, it is recommended to use additional security measures such as a steering wheel lock or an ignition immobilizer.

Theft:

On May 1, suspects removed an unsecured safe left on a victim’s driveway on the 500 block of Burlingame Ave. The safe was taken during an unreported burglary.

Residents are reminded to be wary of phone calls or emails requesting money or gift cards,
