The Brentwood School Celebrates AAPI Month and The 2023 Candelighting Ceremony

Students Learned More About Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage and Passes The Torch

By Dolores Quintana

Brentwood School recently celebrated two events that celebrate their connection to the community and their students. First, on May 15, to honor Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, the Lower School Asian Family Association celebrated with a special “Taste of Asia” event and Crayon Club presentation. Students learned about Asian culture and history while trying different foods from all over Asia. The school took time to give thanks to the parents who volunteered to make the event a success.

Secondly, on May 13, the Brentwood School held the traditional Candlelighting Ceremony. The event is a longstanding tradition that symbolizes the passing of the torch from one class to another and serves as a reminder of the strength and unity of the Brentwood community.

Families, friends, and faculty all gathered to watch as the Class of 2023 lit the candles of the Class of 2024. The ceremony is a powerful visual representation of the responsibilities and expectations that come with being a member of the Brentwood community.

As the Class of 2023 lit the candles of the Class of 2024, it was a powerful reminder of the importance of reflection, tradition, and community. The ceremony also serves as a celebration of the achievements of the graduating class. It is an opportunity for the entire Brentwood community to come together and recognize the accomplishments of the students who have worked so hard to get to this point.
