Brentwood Weekly Crime Report

May 16, 2023 – May 23, 2023

Submitted by LAPD Senior Lead Officer Michael Kirk

Burglary:
05-23-23 0100 Hrs, 11700 San Vicente Blvd, Suspect used a hammer to smash the front door of the business, which activated the alarm. The suspect fled the location without entering the business.

I you have any ladders on your property, please secure them in a locked garage or storage shed or secure them with a chain to prevent suspects from gaining access to the second story. Most suspects expect the second story of a home to not be alarmed like the first floor*

Remember always lock your doors and windows when you leave your home. If you have an alarm, please use it and if you have security cameras, make sure they are working and the footage can be accessed.  If possible, lock access to the electrical panel to prevent power from being shut off without your knowledge.

Robbery
None Reported

ADW (Assault With Deadly Weapon):
None reported

BFMV (Burglary from motor vehicle)/ TFMV (Theft from motor Vehicle)
05-21-23 0330 Hrs, 1700 Block of Darlington Ave, Suspects smashed side window and removed property from the vehicle. The property taken was power tools.

05-22-23 1930 Hrs / 05-23-23 0630 Hrs, 11700 Block of Mayfield Ave, Susp(s) removed two left wheels and tires from a 2020 Range Rover parked on the street. Remember, DO NOT leave key fobs in your vehicle. Most new cars will not allow you to lock your car with the key fob inside. Also, please don’t leave valuables inside your vehicle, especially if they are visible from outside the vehicle. Are car parked in a secure parking garage does not make it immune from being broken into.

GTA (Grand Theft Auto
05-16-23 2100 Hrs / 05-17-23 0800 Hrs, 300 Block of S. Anita Ave, a 2013 Mercedes Benz CLS 550 was taken from a driveway.

05-23-23 1400 Hrs – 1645 Hrs, 11600 Block of San Vicente Blvd, a 2017 Subaru Impreza was taken from the street.

Please don’t leave your car unlocked and most importantly, NEVER leave your keys in the car. This makes it way too easy for thieves and they will continue to target the area if the opportunities a readily available. If you own a 2010-2021 Kia or Hyundai, be aware that the ignition can be easily defeated and has been posted on social media, which has made the rate of these vehicles being stolen skyrocket. If you own one of these vehicles, I would recommend a steering wheel lock and/or an ignition immobilizer to make it more difficult to steal.

Theft
05-19-23 0915 Hrs – 0945 Hrs, 11900 Block of Wilshire Blvd, Susp(s) removed bag from unhoused persons shopping cart and fled location.

I just want to remind everyone that if some call or e-mails stating that you need to send money or gift cards most likely it’s a scam. If they say they are from a reputable company, contact the company with a phone number that you acquire and check that way. Sometimes these suspects can be very convincing but never just hand over money, gift cards or any personal information.

If you are going to sell an item on the internet and meet in person, make sure you have someone else with you and make the transaction in a public location. Many people meet in front of the police station to make the transaction and advise the buyer of the location prior to the meeting. Also, when you are shopping, please keep your purse on your person and not left in the shopping cart. Thieves will many times work in pairs to distract the victim while the other suspect takes the purse. If you feel it is necessary to keep your purse in the shopping cart, have it zipped up and place it in the bottom.
