Children, Teens, and Adults Invited to Participate in Summer Reading Challenge: My L.A.

A Paper Crafting Program Will Run In Conjunction With The Reading Challenge

The Brentwood Library has issued an invitation to readers of all ages and said, “We’re kicking off the 2023 Summer Reading Challenge with this puppet show from Hey Hey Entertainment.  Tiny the Elephant has packed his trunk and said so long to the circus. On his way home to Africa, Tiny takes a wrong turn and ends up in foreign lands. Now, Tiny needs help from the locals and the kids in the audience to get home safely!”

This year the Summer Reading Challenge is open to everyone. From children to teens to adults, everyone is encouraged to join in the fun and embark on a literary adventure centered around the theme of “My L.A.” The Challenge will run from June 5 to August 5, providing ample time for bookworms to immerse themselves in captivating tales.

To sign up, participants can visit lapl.org/summer starting June 5 or register at the library’s Reference Desk. As a token of appreciation, all participants will receive a library tote bag along with exciting incentives designed especially for younger readers.

There will also be a magic show on Saturday, June 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. as a kickoff to the Reading Challenge called The Wacko Show, featuring Wacko the Magician. He is an experienced entertainer who will be bringing lots of fun for the whole family.

The Summer Reading Challenge offers a unique opportunity to explore the diverse city of Los Angeles and celebrate the personal stories that make it special. Whether it’s a cherished memory, a favorite location, or an inspiring encounter, each participant is encouraged to share their own narrative and declare, “This is My L.A.”

An engaging paper crafting program has been scheduled in conjunction with the Summer Reading Challenge. Taking place on Saturday, June 10, at 3 p.m., this creative session will offer participants the chance to make a delightful cupcake birthday card—a perfect gesture to send to a friend or loved one. Additionally, attendees will have the opportunity to craft a charming coordinating gift bag. The projects will showcase intriguing details and introduce various paper crafting techniques. All necessary materials will be provided for the class.

Please note that the paper crafting program is exclusively for patrons aged 13 years and older. Due to limited space, interested individuals are encouraged to RSVP in advance by contacting palsds@lapl.org or by visiting the Reference Desk to secure their spot.
