BrentwoodMeet’s Community Projects: Sharing Literature and Embracing History

New Mah Jongg Class Starts This Week, Sign Up For Future Classes On Website

By Dolores Quintana

BrentwoodMeet, a community-driven organization, is excited to share updates on its ongoing projects to foster connection and promote literacy and history appreciation. Volunteers are welcome to join and contribute to these meaningful initiatives.

Little Libraries Project: Transforming Newspapers Distributors for Local Book Exchange

This week, BrentwoodMeet is focusing on the “Little Libraries Project,” which involves revitalizing old and abandoned newspaper distributors. These neglected structures will be cleaned and adorned with eye-catching signage. While only a select few will be used, the group aims to turn them into mini-libraries filled with books donated by community members. It’s a unique chance to share your love for reading by contributing books you no longer need and, in return, discover new literary treasures from fellow neighbors. Let’s come together to create a thriving literary exchange.

Reviving History: The Payphone Project:

BrentwoodMeet is also working on the restoration of an old, unused phone booth, preserving a piece of history for future generations. The group plans to repaint and clean the booth and create an engaging narrative about payphones, targeting Millennials, Generation Y, and Z. They intend to highlight how these once-ubiquitous devices were used in the past. To complete the exhibit, the team is looking for an old handset. If you happen to have one, consider donating it to help bring this historical display to life.

BrentwoodMeet welcomes volunteers to join in these projects and make a positive impact on the community. You can get more information at the BrentwoodMeet website

The organization is also starting up a Mah Jongg class this week. If you are interested in future classes, please email brentwoodmeet@gmail.com. You should purchase the official card for the year 2023 before you begin the class. Here is the link to order either standard or large print cards from the National Mah Jongg League
