Local Residents Have Volunteered To Man These Neighborhood Spaces For Books
By Dolores Quintana
The leader of BrentwoodMeet, Simone Joseph, has started what she calls the Little Brentwood Libraries, utilizing empty newspaper vending stands to create a version of the leave a book, take a book neighborhood libraries that have sprung up in neighborhoods all over Los Angeles in the last few years.
Joseph stated via email that Anne, a volunteer, has taken on the role of Librarian for the first “library” located at Barrington at San Vicente. To kickstart this neighborhood initiative, the newspaper vending machine received a thorough cleaning, ensuring a welcoming and inviting space for residents. The second photo shows the before picture of what the machine looked like prior to its transformation.
One of the driving forces behind this community project has been the generosity of Brentwood neighbors. Susan, Jane, and others have contributed book donations, filling the library shelves with a diverse and captivating selection of reading materials for all to enjoy. Adding a touch of creativity and flair to the project, Mikayla J. from ltlfirm.com generously provided eye-catching signs that enhanced the library’s visibility and charm.
Four community members have volunteered to ‘adopt’ these libraries, taking responsibility for their maintenance and upkeep. Courtney has adopted the one at San Vincente, and Bundy also leads the local book club. Courtney, known for her artistic talents, has given the library a vibrant aqua-green makeover and plans to enhance its aesthetics further.
