Brentwood Community Council Celebrates 25 Years of Community Dedication and Honors Influential Founders

Awards and Special Tributes Highlight a Quarter-Century of Commitment to Brentwood

The Brentwood Community Council (BCC) commemorated a quarter-century of community engagement and dedication on Thursday, October 5th. In a special event that brought together both longstanding and new members, the evening celebrated the instrumental figures who have shaped the BCC’s formation and sustained its legacy.

Notable honorees included former City Councilwoman Cindy Miscikowski and the inaugural Chair of the BCC, Flora Gil Krisiloff, both recipients of the prestigious Founders Award. The Trailblazer Award was presented to the Member extraordinaire, Nancy Freedman, affectionately known as “Ms. Brentwood.”

The highlight of the evening was a heartfelt celebration of Brentwood resident Larry Watts, a former BCC Chair and the current BCC Vice Chair. Watts, known for his remarkable contributions to the community, has played a pivotal role in various initiatives, from preserving the Sullivan Canyon riding ring to enhancing the landscape and greenery at Brentwood Science Magnet School.

The event was further enriched by a blessing from Tongva tribe member Angie Dorame Behrns, adding a touch of cultural significance to the festivities. Elected officials, including Senator Ben Allen, Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin, County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath, and City Councilwoman Traci Park, joined in to recognize the BCC’s impact on the Brentwood community.

The Brentwood Community Council expressed its deep gratitude to its supportive partners, fondly referred to as the “Brentwood Angels.” Tom Safran, Caruso, Douglas Emmett, Friends of Brentwood, and Brentwood Country Club were acknowledged for their unwavering support.

In the near future, the BCC plans to release a captivating video tribute to Larry Watts, crafted by their own Board Member, Thomas Howard. The video will be accessible on their official website at https://www.bcc90049.org, allowing community members to further appreciate Watts’ remarkable contributions to Brentwood.
