On Giving Tuesday, November 28th, the Jewish National Fund-USA hosted its annual Breakfast for Israel in Brentwood, bringing together over 600 community members. The event, dedicated to celebrating and supporting Israel, was sold out and served as a demonstration of solidarity amidst rising antisemitism.

Four survivors of the Nova Music Festival, where 364 young people fell victim to a Hamas terrorist attack on October 7th, were in attendance. Witnessing the support from Los Angeles for the Jewish Homeland deeply moved these survivors.

Prominent figures were also present, including Julian Gold, Mayor of Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills Fire Chief Greg Barton, and Consul General of Israel to the Pacific Southwest Israel Bachar.

The event featured a panel discussion with distinguished voices from California’s Jewish community, including Rabbi Dr. Mark Goldfeder, Esq., and Professor Erin Stafford Dormedy. Israel Defense Forces Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) Tiran Attia, Director of Special in Uniform, shared insights into the groundbreaking program that integrates young Israelis with disabilities into the Israel Defense Forces and society.

Event chairs Robin Nourmand and Sepi Makabi expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support. Nourmand shared his thoughts on recent events and the state of the world today, saying, “We, on behalf of Jewish National Fund-USA, are humbled by the outpouring of support this morning from our Jewish and non-Jewish friends in attendance. Together, we are one family. While our hearts have broken, it is together that we heal, build, and triumph over hatred and evil.”

His co-chair, Sepi Makabi, echoed these sentiments, sharing that, “Together, we are going to pick up the pieces, and help our (friends), and all the broken survivors of terror rebuild their communities, and keep hope and light in their lives.”  The breakfast served as a poignant display of support, optimism, and enduring love for the land and people of Israel from Los Angeles’s diverse Jewish community and beyond.
