Brentwood Weekly Crime Report: September 12, 2024 – September 18, 2024

Report from Senior Lead Officer Matthew Kirk

By Matthew Kirk

The Brentwood area experienced a series of crimes last week, ranging from burglaries to a robbery. Here’s a summary of the incidents:

Burglaries:

  • Sept. 15 (900 block of Norman Place): Suspects entered a residence through an unlocked window. It’s unclear if any property was taken.
  • Sept. 16-17 (12300 block of Wilshire Blvd): A glass door was smashed, and suspects stole construction materials from the building.
  • Sept. 18 (11300 block of Berwick St): Suspects jumped a side fence and smashed a rear window before fleeing. No property was stolen.
  • Sept. 18 (500 block of 26th St): Suspects broke a rear glass door and ransacked the residence, though it was unclear what, if anything, was taken.

Crime Prevention Tips: Residents are reminded to secure ladders, lock doors and windows, activate alarms, and ensure security cameras are working. Some burglars pose as gardeners to avoid suspicion. It’s also recommended to lock access to electrical panels, as suspects may try to disable power, and to consider using hard-wired security cameras that cannot be disrupted by WiFi jammers.

Robbery:

  • Sept. 17 (Darlington/San Vicente): A man was robbed of his watch by two suspects while waiting for a valet. The suspects, described as two Black males in their 20s-30s, fled in a white Ford Fusion. No weapons were reported.

Grand Theft Auto:

  • Sept. 17-18 (600 block of S. Barrington Ave): A 2015 Infiniti was stolen from the street. Residents are urged not to leave cars unlocked or keys inside, and those with Kia or Hyundai vehicles (2010-2021) are advised to use steering wheel locks or immobilizers due to a rise in thefts of these models.

No Reports:

  • No assaults with deadly weapons, burglaries from motor vehicles, or thefts were reported during this period.

Safety Reminder: Be cautious of scams, especially those involving requests for money or gift cards. Verify any requests through official channels. When selling items online, meet in public places and consider a police station for added safety. Shoppers are also reminded to keep personal belongings secure, especially purses, while in stores.
