Jim Carrey Reprices Brentwood Estate Amid Market Shifts and Wildfire Concerns

Iconic Actor Carrey’s Brentwood Retreat Back on Market at $18.75M

Actor Jim Carrey has reduced the asking price for his Brentwood estate by another $1 million, now listing the property for $18.75 million following a failed sale earlier this year.

The 63-year-old comedian and star of the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film series initially put the 2-acre property on the market in early 2023 for $28.9 million. After multiple price cuts, the estate went into escrow last December at $19.75 million. However, the deal ultimately fell through, and the home returned to the market in February with a slightly reduced price tag.

Carrey, who purchased the residence in 1994, cited infrequent use of the property as his reason for selling. While the estate was not damaged during January’s Pacific Palisades wildfire, it was close enough to the fire’s edge to require evacuation as flames threatened nearby Mandeville Canyon. Industry insiders say that the timing of the wildfire and the cancellation of the deal may not be coincidental, as some lenders and insurers pulled back from high-risk areas during the height of the emergency.

The estate, located on North Tigertail Road, was built in 1951 and spans more than 10,000 square feet. Highlights include five bedrooms, an Art Deco-style movie theater, a circular sunroom, and expansive gardens with winding paths. Outdoor amenities feature a pool with a waterfall, a covered patio, and a detached structure that houses a yoga and meditation studio.

The listing reflects the broader market volatility facing luxury properties in fire-prone areas, especially as insurers continue to reassess risk in California’s hillside neighborhoods.
