Santa Monica-Based Author Will Join Writer Gary Goldstein for a Free Sept. 2 Discussion
Santa Monica-based author, director, and actor Terri Hanauer will discuss and sign her debut novel, The Lightness of Rain, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Diesel, A Bookstore in Brentwood. The free event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the store’s courtyard and will feature Hanauer in conversation with Gary Goldstein, an award-winning writer for film, television, and theater.
Seating is limited; attendees can reserve a place by purchasing a copy of Hanauer’s novel through the bookstore’s website.
Published earlier this year, The Lightness of Rain explores the intersecting lives of three women navigating love, survival, and identity in Los Angeles. Alison, a teacher and poet, wrestles with the loss of a long-ago romance and a lingering secret. Wanda, eight months pregnant, flees an abusive marriage while searching for safety on the streets of L.A. Trisha, a Canadian transplant chasing an acting career, balances her work as a nurse with a new relationship. Their stories converge in unexpected ways, weaving together themes of loss, hope, forgiveness, and resilience.

Hanauer, a graduate of AFI’s Directing Workshop for Women, has built a career spanning theater, film, and television. She has directed award-winning Los Angeles stage productions, the feature film Sweet Talk, a season of HBO/Cinemax’s Zane’s Sex Chronicles, and Amazon’s Smothered. As an actress, she has appeared in numerous TV shows and stage productions in the U.S. and Canada. Her poetry and short fiction have been published in literary journals, and she is also the author of the self-help book The Party – How to Have Fun While Finding True Love.
Goldstein, who will moderate the discussion, is the author of three novels, including the award-winning romantic comedy The Last Birthday Party. A longtime Los Angeles Times film reviewer and arts writer, he has written more than 30 produced screen and stage projects.
