Rack ‘Em!
By JEFFREY S. HALL
As part of our product upgrade, we recently bought a number of new newsracks which are now starting to appear on the streets of Brentwood and elsewhere.
They are of the standard issue, military-green variety. I personally liked our white ones, but they were old and in need of replacing. And military-green is what the city says it wants.
Some consider newsracks an eyesore; others rely on them to find newspapers and magazines such as ours. Not everyone lives in a house, where the Brentwood News is delivered to the driveway.
It’s difficult to deliver the Brentwood News into condos and apartments. Sometimes security gates at the entrance make this impossible. And building managers have been known to grab a freshly dropped stack of magazines, and then toss them all out at once.
So the racks, unsightly as they may seem to some, are the only way many people can get their copy of the Brentwood News. This is also true for people from other areas, who like to see what’s what in our sweet little town.
I tend to cringe a bit when people complain about newsracks. If the day ever comes when the powers-that-be start removing them, I hope the citizens of Brentwood will rally behind our new, fully conforming, green Brentwood News racks.
