Luxe Hotel Feeds Voters Who Come To the Brentwood Area Hotel to Vote

The Luxe Hotel in Brentwood served free smoked salmon sandwiches, cookies and salad to residents who came to the hotel to vote. At this unique polling place, a four year old is reported as having announced she was a firm supporter of President Obama.

This unusually posh voting set-up drew the attention of both the Los Angeles Times and TIME Magazine. Joel Stein of TIME noted that this was how the “1%†vote, and it sure beats the alternative that most of us experience.

Efrem Harkham, owner of the hotel, has been a very supportive member of the Brentwoood community for decades now. The Luxe has sponsored political debates, charitable fundraisers and a program to house parents of those with kids staying overnight at UCLA hospital.

Of course, the hotel also provides plush accommodations for those visiting Brentwood and its restaurant is kind of a secret that few know about. Those who do know about it rave about the place.

Unimaginative Barry Building Protected By the Cultural Heritage Commission

Countless Brentwood residents have gone on the record in defense of the shabby building which used to house Dutton’s Brentwood Books. Now that Charles Munger has planned to integrate the former bookstore into an attractive, well-designed layout with badly needed San Vicente parking, the community is heavily split between those who would demand the Barry Building be included and others who recognize it would diminish Munger’s imaginative project, which has already been delayed for months by the endless debate.

O. J. Simpson’s ‘Bloody Gloves’ Recalled at Recent New York Trial

17 years ago Brentwood’s O.J. Simpson was accused of killing his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Lyle Goldman. O.J. was declared not guilty largely because he was unable to fit his hands into a pair of bloody leather gloves dramatically presented in evidence by his attorney Johnnie Cochran Jr. who echoed his famous line “if it doesn’t fit, you must acquit…†which the jury did. Simpson prosecutor Christopher Darden repeated the famous Cochran statement at a trial at Pace Law School in New York last month, drawing attention to one of the all-time miscarriages of justice. The site of Simpson’s former mansion in Brentwood has become a ‘landmark’ for his neighbors to show to visitors. Simpson has since been jailed in Las Vegas for trying to trick some con men into giving up some of his memorabilia, which he hoped to sell.
