Additional Police Presence in Brentwood

Councilmember Mike Bonin requested more officers following an uptick in crime in the neighborhood.

Following a recent spate of crimes over the summer in Brentwood, CD11 Councilmember Mike Bonin stepped in to organize additional police presence in the area.

After receiving reports of break-ins and other crimes, Bonin reached out to Commander of LAPD’s West Bureau Dennis Kato. Kato agreed to increase police presence in the area, which will help in the short term.

However, Bonin is continuing to work with the Los Angeles City Council and top officials at LAPD in an effort to have more officers patrolling neighborhoods.

Bonin is also working on a “Back to Basic Car” proposal, which would see more police patrolling neighborhoods in an effort to stop crimes before they happen.

West LA Police Officer III James W. Lavenson said he had reviewed the local crime reports and said he believed some of the crimes may be avoidable. “Hide It, Lock It, Keep It,” is his motto: urging residents to please lock and secure their vehicles and residences. He added, “Some of our quality of life issues and rules need to be reinforced to our homeless population.”
