If you want to stay somewhere that is bustling with young people and has a lot of things going on all the time, the University of Southern California (USC) and the surrounding area are perfect for you. You can find everything from the Natural History Museum of LA, art centers including the Fisher Museum of Art to the California African American Museum and many bookstores in this part of Los Angeles, meaning you will never wonder how to spend your time. There are many options for University of Southern California off-campus housing, including compact bungalows and shared accommodation with other students. If you are new to the area, staying with other students might be a good idea so you can make friends at a similar stage in life more easily. This will set you up perfectly for starting your time at University.

Culver City

Up next on this list is Culver City, located on the west side of Los Angeles and has more of a small-town feel than many other parts of the area. It has a reputation for being remarkably safe and is close to LAX, Santa Monica, and Downtown LA. Another bonus is that Culver City is only a short drive from the beach, meaning you can have the option to go to the seaside during your time off to enjoy the sun. To get an idea of the different choices, you can look for apartments for rent in Los Angeles to see the variety of places you can live in. You can filter your search to match the type of accommodation you want to stay in.

A lovely community has been built in this part of Los Angeles where many young families have decided to bring up their children here. The atmosphere is best described as friendly, with a farmer’s market being held every month that many residents visit to enjoy local produce. The neighborhoods in Culver City are generally quiet, and there are plenty of outdoor spaces and small parks, which are great for those who want to go on a relaxing stroll or read a book in some beautiful surroundings and peace. In addition, there is a vast selection of fantastic coffee shops and restaurants to enjoy, meaning that you will never be stuck wondering where to eat for dinner.

Silver Lake

Silver Lake is perfect if you want to live somewhere more trendy and artsy. This area of Los Angeles is known for having a fantastic selection of excellent healthy eateries, coffee shops, and chic cocktail bars. There is a diverse range of architecture here, from contemporary buildings to more classic Spanish-style homes. An intense art scene in Silver Lake attracts many ambitious artists from around the country. In addition to this, you will be near both Hollywood and Downtown LA.

There are lots of things to do in Silver Lake. It is also a fantastic place for people who consider themselves outdoorsy, with many parks and hills to walk to your heart’s content. Let’s not forget the famous Silver Lake Reservoir, which offers visitors a variety of options for different types of exercise. This area is hugely popular with those who have pets and/or families, which creates a friendly and welcoming environment to settle in.

Echo Park

Located North of Chinatown and Downtown Los Angeles, Echo Park is described as a hipster area with some of the city’s trendiest coffee shops and restaurants and fantastic nightlife. There are various accommodation types here, from modern apartments to more classic bungalow homes, providing the students in the area with many choices when deciding where to live. This area is home to Echo Park Lake, a fantastic place to quickly forget that you are in the middle of a busy city. There is plenty here for students to enjoy, from farmer’s markets to food trucks and several festivals. Everywhere in Echo Park is walkable — perfect for those who don’t want to spend much time and money traveling.

Now you know about some of the best places to live as a student in Los Angeles. Before deciding where to look for accommodation while attending university, it is crucial to do proper research to find somewhere that matches your personality and preferences. Not everyone will enjoy the same thing, so don’t commit to somewhere before you understand what the area offers, as you will likely spend several years there during your studies.
