The No Parking Signs Are Being Installed North of 1500 North Kenter
By Dolores Quintana
The Brentwood Community Council’s newsletter announced this week that new “Tow Away – No Parking Any Time” signs are being installed north of 1500 North Kenter on both sides of North Kenter, near the entrance to the Kenter Trailhead. Because of the increased fire hazard as the summer heat starts in earnest, these signs are meant to help firefighting efforts once the fire season starts.
This action is likely being taken as a public safety measure so that emergency vehicles will be able to access the area if the need arises. Please be aware of and observe the new signage once installed. It may be part of \the Red Flag Restricted Parking Program. In an attempt to increase public safety, the Fire Department and Department of Transportation have created a program to remove illegally parked vehicles in posted locations within the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones.
This program was implemented with the assistance of the City Council to remove vehicles that create hazardous conditions. Station Commanders were asked to survey their district and identify critical areas where parked vehicles could delay citizens trying to evacuate and fire companies attempting to gain access during a Brush Incident.
Station Commanders were asked to identify areas such as very narrow roads, hairpin turns, tight curves, and key intersections that would create a choke point if not cleared of vehicles.
