Brentwood Village held its annual holiday festival Saturday, Dec. 3 from noon to 3 p.m. Among the festivities and attractions were live music, a petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, the opportunity to meet Santa and of course plenty of food and drink.
In addition, two local residents, Amber Jamal Eckerlund and Michele Aronson (pictured) decided to set up an impromptu holiday display on the San Vicente median strip, composing this poem to put the final touches on the festive cheer.
The community begged and pleaded for some holiday spirit
And after so many years of thinking no one could hear it,
Two crazy women who work a little too hard
Sought to bring some cheer to San Vicente Boulevard
So they created an organization and gave it a name,
“San Vicente Business Association!” they did proclaim.
As they opened their book and began the first page,
Brentwood 90049 stepped in with a local named Bert to build them a stage
He hammered and stapled and strung lights with care,
Then Michele bought some sparkly boxes and the world’s largest bear
Picked a place on the median for the joyful display,
Go Graphics & Printing donated signs with zero delay
After countless hours of shopping and planning,
Switching on and off the lighting, it was becoming quite demanding
But just when they thought they were losing their minds,
The joy of GIVING to the community is what they did find
And they’re thrilled to be standing before you with their GIFTS to say,
Happy Holidays to you from the BRENTWOOD BEAR & friends, and SVBA!
