Brentwood Library Hosts Final Week of Summer Activities, Including Free Vision Exams and Crafting

Explore DIY Fashion Crafts, Storytime, and a Special Chinese Dessert Dumplings Workshop

As summer draws to a close, the library is celebrating the final week of its “Summer with the Library” program. The season has been filled with engaging activities, culminating in the popular Bubblemania Summer Finale event. Patrons who signed up for Summer Reading are reminded to submit their completed game boards or finish their reading on Beanstack by Saturday, August 10.

The week kicks off with a craft session on Monday, August 5, at 4 p.m., during which participants will create DIY Fashion using standard craft supplies.

In addition, the library is offering a special opportunity for youth ages 5-18 to receive a free vision exam and glasses through Vision to Learn. These services will be available on Thursdays, August 15, 22, and 29, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the branch parking lot. While walk-ins are welcome, appointments can be made on the Vision to Learn website to secure a spot.

The schedule for this week’s events is as follows:

  • Monday, 8/5 at 4:00 p.m.: Crafternoon: DIY Fashion
  • Tuesday, 8/6 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.: STAR Reader Alicia
  • Wednesday, 8/7, at 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.: Toddler/Preschool Storytime
  • Wednesday, 8/7, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.: STAR Reader Bonnie
  • Thursday, 8/8, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.: Brick-Building Playtime

An adult event is also happening this week. The Chinese Dessert Dumplings Workshop will take place on Saturday, August 10, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Join Chef Jess Wang for a communal Chinese dessert tradition: preparing hand-rolled sticky rice dumplings! Learn about the symbolic significance of these delicious dumplings, and see how filled tangyuan dumplings and fruity QQ pearl dumplings are made. The cooking demo will include a hands-on activity and will be followed by a tasting. This is a gluten-free and vegan-friendly event. Advance registration is required, as space and materials are limited. Please call the library at 310-575-8273 to reserve a spot.

For ADA accommodations, call (213) 228-7430 at least 72 hours prior to the event.
