Brentwood resident John Cooke received the Light of Learning Award for his outstanding contributions to the Library Foundation of Los Angeles at the Los Angeles Public Library Awards Dinner at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel on April 30. Cooke served as a founding member of the Foundation’s board of directors and board chairman. He was co-chair of the Los Angeles Public Library Awards Dinner, chair of the Cultural Programs committee and he served on the Development Committee, Governance Committee and the Foundation Giving committee. Cooke is currently president and chief executive officer of investment company Western Territories Group, LLC.
Previously, Cooke was executive vice-president of external affairs for the J. Paul Getty Trust. Cooke served as executive vice-president of the Walt Disney Company from 1985 to 1995 and as president of the Disney Channel.
Over the 16 years that Cooke participated on the Library Foundation’s board, the organization has raised more than $70 million in private funds to benefit the people of Los Angeles through the Los Angeles Public Library.
