Brentwood, Palisades, and West LA Libraries Announce Exciting Summer Programs

Join for Storytimes, Crafting Sessions, and Special Events Kicking off This June

The Brentwood Library’s summer program will begin on June 10. It will offer a variety of activities and events for all ages. Children who sign up for the program, either in person or online at lapl.org/summer, will receive a tote bag and a book to take home.

One of the highlights of the week is the LA Zoo Pollinator Storytime on Friday, June 14, at 12:00 p.m., which will educate children about the importance of pollinators. The event is recommended for children aged 3-10.

The library also welcomes a new STAR Volunteer, Francesca, who will be reading books and telling stories to children on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Here is the schedule for the week:

  • Monday, June 10:
    • 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: STAR Reader Francesca
    • 3:00 p.m.: Baby Music & Play
  • Tuesday, June 11:
    • 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: STAR Reader Alicia
  • Wednesday, June 12:
    • 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.: Toddler/Preschool Storytime
    • 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.: STAR Reader Bonnie
  • Thursday, June 13:
    • 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.: Brick-Building Playtime
    • 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.: STAR Reader Camille
  • Friday, June 14:
    • 12:00 p.m.: LA Zoo Pollinator Storytime

Palisades Library to Host Online Conversation with Author Ruth Ben-Ghiat: 

The Palisades Library will feature an online conversation with Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a former volunteer and renowned expert on fascism and authoritarianism, on Monday, June 10, at 3:30 p.m. Dr. Ben-Ghiat, an NYU professor and author of “Strongmen,” will discuss her upbringing in the Palisades and how it influenced her career. Interested participants can email palsds@lapl.org for the Zoom link.

The library also offers various other programs:

  • Bridge Game:
    • Friday, June 7, at 12:30 p.m.
    • For all skill levels, from beginners to social players.
  • Senior Writing:
    • Monday, June 10, at 1 p.m.
    • Led by Kathy Katims, this group welcomes new members and offers prompts and sharing opportunities. RSVP recommended at kathleenkatims@gmail.com or 310-569-3492.
  • Pali Knitting and Crocheting:
    • Second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 2:00 p.m.
    • Open to knitters and crocheters of all levels aged 18 and older.
  • Teens:
    • Teen Council meets every Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
    • Online Zine Club meets twice a month on Mondays at 4:00 p.m. Email palsds@lapl.org for the Zoom link.

West LA Library Offers Weekly Crafternoon and Summer Reading Programs:

The West LA Library invites patrons to “Crafternoon” on Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., where they can bring their own crafts or enjoy coloring with provided materials. On Thursdays at 4:15 p.m., there is an all-ages jump rope program.

The summer reading program begins on June 10 and runs through August 10. It features bags, swag, free books, and various programs for all ages. Participants can register through the Beanstack app or online at lapl.org/summer.

In celebration of Pride Month, the library will host a tie-dye T-shirt event on Sunday, June 16. Due to limited space, RSVPs are required. Interested participants can email westla@lapl.org with their name and T-shirt size.

The adult summer reading program will conclude with a “Learn to Watercolor” class. Registration is required, and space is limited. Teens and seniors interested in joining can email westla@lapl.org to reserve a spot.
