Brentwood Presbyterian Church Celebrates 75 Years

Brentwoood Presbyterian Church Turns 75 Years YoungBraving brisk winds and dodging occasional raindrops, over 350 friends, current and former members of Brentwood Presbyterian Church (BPC) gathered on the weekend of February 26-27 to celebrate The Seasons of BPC…75 Years of Praising God on the corner of San Vicente and Bundy.

Among the special guests who visited from far and wide were nine of the congregation’s former pastors and spouses, each of whom was enthusiastically and warmly welcomed from Texas, Colorado, Northern California, and many other points in and around L.A. and the Westside, and reaching decades back in time.

The festivities began Friday afternoon in the church Sanctuary, which was filled to capacity for a roof-raising musical presentation by church members, its choir and special participation by “Joyful Noise†the Chi ldren’s Choir at BPC. Several new songs were commissioned to honor the event. The occasion was also commemorated with a CD recording of the concert songs and other long-time favorites. The CD was presented to participants as a gift, thanks to the generosity of one very special member, Ned Austin, who passed away a number of years ago leaving an unexpected endowment to benefit “creative arts†at the church (see associated story).

Following the concert, all gathered in Fellowship Hall for a buffet dinner and program honoring the church’s past, recollections from a family who has been a part of the church’s life over four generations, as well as a light-hearted look at what the future might hold for BPC.
The weekend celebration carried right on over into the two Sunday worship services which featured participation of several of the visiting pastors. The event culminated in a traffic-stopping photo of the entire congregation taken from the median on San Vicente—and kicking off the next 75-year chapter in the life of this incredible Brentwood landmark.

Brentwood Presbyterian Church extends an invitation to any and all who wish to visit and participate in our community—there are opportunities to worship at 8:30 and 10:00AM every Sunday and lots of other opportunities to meet or serve throughout the week. All are Welcome!
