Fewer Crimes Reported, but Incidents Included Attempted Home Break-Ins
Reported crime in Brentwood appeared to decline during the week of Aug. 10–16, according to the latest update from Senior Lead Officer Matthew Kirk. While serious incidents were recorded, the overall number of reports was lower than in previous weeks.
Assault with a Deadly Weapon:
- None reported.
Burglary:
- On Aug. 10 at 3:45 a.m., suspects entered a locked garage in the 11600 block of Chenault Street and stole a bicycle.
- Between Aug. 11 at 10:00 a.m. and Aug. 14 at 10:00 a.m., an attempted burglary occurred in the 1900 block of North Westridge Road. Suspects tried to pry open a rear window but did not enter the residence.
- On Aug. 15 at 9:30 a.m., a suspect was captured on security cameras in the 100 block of North Canyon View Drive attempting to break into a home. Police said the man, described as a Hispanic male about 40 years old wearing a blue hat, blue shirt, and tan pants, entered the backyard and attempted to pry open a door with an unknown tool before fleeing. He was seen leaving in a red Toyota.
Burglary/Theft from Motor Vehicle:
- None reported.
Grand Theft Auto:
- On Aug. 10, between 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., a 2016 Dodge Challenger was stolen from the street in the 1000 block of North Kenter Avenue.
Robbery:
- On Aug. 16 at 2:25 a.m., a man walking home from a bar on Wilshire Boulevard was assaulted in the 11800 block of Goshen Avenue. Police said two suspects punched the victim in the face and stole his watch before fleeing westbound on foot. No weapons were reported.
Theft:
- None reported.
