Brentwood’s Saturday Agenda: Pet Parade and Pedestrian-Friendly Plans for San Vincente Medianc

Aug. 9 Brings a National Dog Day Warm-up and an Open House on Making San Vicente Greener

Local dog owners are invited to join an early celebration of National Dog Day with a festive community event hosted by BrentwoodMeet on Saturday, August 24, in Brentwood.

The gathering will take place along San Vicente Boulevard, in front of the Donald Bruce Kaufman Library, where attendees can look for the Brentwood Meet table set up at the library steps. The event promises a lighthearted afternoon of dog-friendly activities, including a parade, treats, a photo contest, and other pet-themed entertainment.

Organizers encourage local residents to bring their leashed dogs and mingle with fellow pet lovers. The event offers an opportunity for neighbors to connect and showcase their four-legged companions ahead of the official National Dog Day, which falls on August 26.

Participants in the dog show must register their pet’s name and breed by emailing brentwoodmeet@gmail.com. All dogs must remain leashed at all times. BrentwoodMeet has issued a disclaimer noting that by participating, attendees accept full responsibility for their pets and acknowledge the risks associated with close interaction among animals and humans. The organization will not be held liable for any injuries.

The event is free and open to the public. Organizers describe it as a “furry good time” for Brentwood’s canine community.

There is also a second community event on the same day of interest to Brentwood residents:

Plans to transform the San Vicente Boulevard median into a greener, more pedestrian-friendly corridor will be the focus of a public meeting hosted by Councilwoman Traci Park on Saturday, Aug. 9.

The open house will run from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. Martin of Tours Parish Center, 11967 W. Sunset Blvd., giving residents a chance to view proposed designs, ask questions, and offer feedback.

In addition to new landscaping and pedestrian improvements, the project includes plans for left-turn pockets at San Vicente and Darlington avenues near Coral Tree Café.

Funding for the upgrades is being provided through a grant secured by State Sen. Ben Allen, along with support from StreetsLA and the Los Angeles City Council office.

Community members with questions can contact Michael Amster in the Council Office at 310-568-8772 or via email at michael.amster@lacity.org.
