Celebrate the Festival of Lights at Skirball’s Annual Hanukkah Festival – Dec. 15

Experience Music, Storytelling, Crafts, and Community, Create Lasting Memories

The Skirball Cultural Center is inviting families to create lasting Hanukkah memories with its annual Hanukkah Festival on Sunday, December 15, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The museum opens at 11 a.m., offering attendees a day filled with music, storytelling, food, and community activities.

Advance tickets for the event are sold out, but limited walk-up tickets will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. General admission is $20, with discounted rates for seniors, students, and children. Skirball Members and children under 2 attend for free.

Highlights of this year’s festival include performances by the beloved klezmer-rock band Mostly Kosher, who will energize the crowd with joyful rhythms. The Skirball Storytellers will bring the Hanukkah story to life with a theatrical performance featuring music and puppetry.

Throughout the day, attendees can enjoy a variety of activities, including:

  • Crafting wearable Hanukkah lamps
  • Watching the award-winning short film Blewish
  • Spinning dreidels in the Dreidel Lounge
  • Dancing at a specially designed dance-a-long for little ones
  • Indulging in traditional treats like latkes and jelly doughnuts
  • Taking holiday-themed photos

At sundown, guests will join together for a community candle lighting, symbolizing hope and unity ahead of the holiday season.

Ticket holders can also explore Skirball’s exhibitions, including Diane von Furstenberg: Woman Before Fashion and Ancient Wisdom for a Future Ecology: Trees, Time, and Technology.

Hanukkah, also known as the Festival of Lights, commemorates the Maccabees’ fight for freedom nearly 2,000 years ago. The eight-night celebration emphasizes bringing light into the world during the darkest time of the year.

For additional details, including parking and dining options, visit the Skirball’s website. Families interested in membership can take advantage of a special offer available only on-site during the festival.

Noah’s Ark will offer limited walk-up tickets, and the Archaeology Dig will be closed. Questions about the festival can be addressed through the Skirball’s FAQs.
