Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said Thursday that rising cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) could cause a return to stay-at-home orders.
“If things get worse, that dial could move to red in this coming week or two. That would place us at the highest risk of infection, and we’d likely return to a mandated safer-at-home order,” Garcetti said. “But, if things get better, we’ll see that dial back down to yellow, indicating we’re successfully flattening the curve again.”
On Thursday, Public Health confirmed 50 new deaths and 1,777 new cases of COVID-19. The number of new deaths remain higher than the 7-day average of 24 deaths.
There are 2,037 people currently hospitalized, 26 percent of these people are confirmed cases in the ICU and 17 percent are confirmed cases on ventilators. This remains substantially higher than the 1,350 to 1,450 daily hospitalizations seen four weeks ago, according to Public Health.
Testing results are available for nearly 1,240,000 individuals with 9 percent of all people testing positive.
As of Thursday, Public Health has identified 124,738 positive cases of COVID-19 across all areas of LA County, and a total of 3,689 deaths. In Brentwood, there have been 139 cases and two deaths.
