Heiress Selling Historic Tudor Estate

Taylor Thomson selling Bel Air property for $43 million

By Dolores Quintana

Taylor Thomson, the heiress to the Thomson Corporation which owns Thomson Reuters as well as other publishing companies, is selling her home in Bel Air for $43 million.

Her family is one of the wealthiest families in Canada. The home is an English Tudor estate that was designed by celebrated architect Gordon Kaufmann and built-in 1926. The property is located at 620 Siena Way and with 8,880 square feet of living space, there are eight bedrooms and 12 bathrooms in the mansion. Kaufmann was known for designing the famous Greystone Mansion in 1928, what is now the Geffen Playhouse, but was formerly the Masonic Clubhouse, in 1929, the Hollywood Palladium in 1940, and the Hoover Dam in 1935 according to The Sacramento Bee. The Bee quotes Jade Mills of Coldwell Banker Realty, who is the co-listing agent along with Drew Fenton of Hilton & Hyland, as saying of the property “This magnificent estate is on more than one acre of verdant grounds with the most spectacular specimen trees, sycamores and oaks on the finest street in all of Bel Air. With hidden meadows and pocket gardens, the property has been thoughtfully restored and maintained in pristine condition. As with Gordon Kaufmann designs, the home was built to entertain on a grand scale.”

The estate was originally purchased in 2001 for $7.4 million according to The Washington Post and Thomson remodeled the house with an eye for the details of the period in which it was built and the original architecture. The estate comes with a separate two story guesthouse with a kitchen, living room and two extra bedrooms. It has an outdoor pool surrounded by a rich area of trees and a lawn. The main house comes with a formal dining room, gourmet kitchen, wood paneled library, a large stone fireplace, and a formal living room with high beamed ceilings.
