LASD helicopter aids in Sullivan Canyon rescue Sunday afternoon
Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department crews airlifted an injured hiker to safety over the weekend.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), the incident was reported on Sunday around 4:22 p.m. on the Sullivan Canyon Trail.
“Paramedics made their way to an adult male patient who is stable but in serious condition and unable to walk,” the LAFD said, noting the man suffered a non-traumatic medical complaint.
The terrain and location of the man were not conducive to a safe ground-based rescue, the LAFD noted and opted to conduct a hoist operation. LAFD Air Ops, however, was in the process of rescuing another hiker in a separate incident, so the LAFD request a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department helicopter.
LASD Air 5 conducted the hoist operation and transported the man to safety.
No further details are available about the nature of the man’s injury and his current condition.
