Huge Mural Unveiled at Brentwood Science

A huge mural that covers several buildings was unveiled March 4 at Brentwood Science School. In the mural, the late Barbara Goldenberg was commemorated. Barbara was a key sponsor of Brentwood Green, the local volunteer group that has helped spruce up the Brentwood Science Magnet School campus, which now includes a park open to the public after hours and on weekends.
David Legaspi is the artist who painted the mural. “Amazing†is how most describe the mural, which depicts California scenery and wildlife; local residents are encouraged to view it firsthand. The mural also recalls the brief life of the granddaughter of Brentwood Green member Cyrille Schiff Weingarten. Amy Sweeney, daughter of Barbara Goldenberg, spoke, as did Bill Rosendahl and Mike Feuer.
According to Jackie Raymond, president of Brentwood Green, Brentwood Green was founded by a concerned group of Brentwood residents in 1997 to support and beautify the Brentwood Science Magnet School and to create a Community Park in the middle of Brentwood. During the past 15 years, because of the generous financial contributions from our supporters and friends, Brentwood Green has created a playground and fifteen “Learning Gardens†throughout the campus.
“This project could not have happened without the invaluable assistance of the school’s principal, Aleta Taylor,†said Jackie. “Her help and guidance through the quagmire of LAUSD’s rules and regulations has been priceless and very much appreciated.â€
