Sixteen Public Seats Will Be Available for the High-Profile Hearing
Another step in the case of Lyle and Eric Menendez will happen on Monday. A status hearing for the brothers, who were convicted of killing their parents in their Beverly Hills home in 1989, is scheduled for Monday, with 16 public seats available through a lottery system, court officials announced.
The hearing will take place at 10:30 a.m. at the Van Nuys Courthouse West, located at 14400 Erwin Street. Judge Michael Jesic will preside, according to a news release issued Thursday by the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
Members of the public can participate in the lottery for courtroom seats from 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A designated lottery section will be clearly marked, and tickets will be distributed earlier in the morning from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. No photography or video recording will be permitted during the hearing.
“Courtroom seating for the media has already been assigned, and no additional requests will be accepted,” the court’s statement said.
Lottery winners will receive badges that must be worn at all times inside the courthouse. Tickets are non-transferable, officials noted.
This comes as California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced earlier this week that he would not make a clemency decision on the Menendez brothers’ murder convictions until newly elected Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman reviews the case, which dates back nearly 35 years.
