Meet the Author: Kerry Madden-Lunsford Brings Werewolf Hamlet to Diesel, A Bookstore

The Acclaimed Author Will Discuss and Sign Her Latest Middle-Grade Novel on Feb. 26

Diesel, A Bookstore in Brentwood, will welcome author Kerry Madden-Lunsford for a discussion and book signing of her latest middle-grade novel, Werewolf Hamlet, on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. She will be joined in conversation by mindfulness educator and author Susan Kaiser Greenland.

Madden-Lunsford’s Werewolf Hamlet follows the story of 10-year-old Angus, a Shakespeare-loving theater enthusiast navigating the challenges of his family’s struggles and his evolving relationship with his troubled older brother, Liam. Determined to stage a werewolf-inspired Hamlet for his fifth-grade legacy project, Angus also faces the uncertainty of Liam’s erratic behavior as his 17-year-old brother spirals into drinking and late-night disappearances. As their family’s financial difficulties worsen, tensions rise, and when Liam goes missing, Angus takes it upon himself to find him.

The novel, described as blending humor, heart, and classic literature, is aimed at young readers who enjoy stories that tackle complex family dynamics and personal growth. For its sensitive handling of serious topics, it has drawn comparisons to Better Nate Than Ever and Rule of Threes.

Madden-Lunsford has an extensive background in literature and education, having contributed to the Los Angeles Times Op-Ed page and directed the creative writing program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her works include Ernestine’s Milky Way, the Maggie Valley Trilogy, and Up Close: Harper Lee, which was named one of Booklist’s Top Ten Biographies for Youth.

Susan Kaiser Greenland, a renowned mindfulness educator and bestselling author, will join her at the event. She has been recognized for her work introducing secular mindfulness practices into classrooms through the Inner Kids model. Greenland’s latest book, Real-World Enlightenment, continues her exploration of mindfulness and well-being.

The event will be held in the bookstore’s courtyard and is free to attend. However, seating is limited, and those wishing to reserve a seat must purchase a copy of a book for each seat reservation. You can purchase a book on the bookstore’s website here

Diesel, A Bookstore is located in the Brentwood Country Mart at 225 26th St., Suite 33.
