Emergency Crews Extricated One Trapped Victim; Two in Critical Condition
Emergency crews responded to the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on the northbound 405 Freeway on Monday evening at approximately 6:44 p.m. First responders found one person trapped inside a vehicle and two others in critical condition. Firefighters worked to extricate the trapped individual while coordinating with paramedics to treat the injured.
The accident was just north of the Wilshire exit, and three lanes of traffic were blocked off while first responders attempted to save the accident victims.
By 7:13 p.m., officials confirmed that three people had been transported to local hospitals: an 80-year-old woman, a 66-year-old man in critical condition, and a 60-year-old woman in fair condition. A 72-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to the human casualties, one dog was found dead inside a vehicle, and another was reported missing along the freeway.
Authorities have not released further details on the cause of the crash. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
