Officer Taken Into Custody in Westchester, Internal Affairs is Investigating
An off-duty Los Angeles police officer was arrested Tuesday for allegedly assaulting someone with a deadly weapon in the 8600 block of Belford Avenue in Westchester.
Officer Richard Podkowski, identified as the suspect in the incident, was taken into custody following an initial investigation. Podkowski was booked under California Penal Code Section 245, which covers assault with a deadly weapon.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division has launched an administrative investigation that is being conducted alongside the ongoing criminal case. As of now, Podkowski is out of custody and on administrative leave.
Podkowski has been with the LAPD since 2018 and is assigned to the West Bureau.
