Mid-Century Modern Masterpiece Retains Original Neutra Design
Brentwood’s Adler House, a midcentury estate designed by the renowned Richard Neutra, has been listed for sale, as reported by Mansion Global. The residence earned its name from Dr. Fred Adler, a physicist, and his wife, Alicia, who commissioned the renowned Austrian-American architect for its construction in 1955.
Chris Hicks, the listing agent for the home at The Agency, emphasizes Neutra’s brilliance in crafting a design that is both simple and perfect, showcasing breathtaking views that give the impression of hovering over Los Angeles.
The three-bedroom dwelling was purchased by the current, unresponsive sellers in 2013 for slightly over $1.75 million, as per PropertyShark records.
Hicks notes, “They bought it because they saw the importance of preserving the home. The previous owner put their own touches on it, and [the current owners] removed them and took it back to its original standing.”
Original features, including built-in cabinets, desks, and fireplaces, are preserved throughout the property, with Neutra’s distinctive mark evident.
The heart of the open-plan residence is its light-filled sunken living area, adorned with walls of windows offering panoramic views stretching from Downtown Los Angeles to Catalina. The listing states that the kitchen has been updated and “flows effortlessly for cooking and entertaining. The primary bedroom includes an original built-in desk with a vanity, an updated bathroom, and an added walk-in closet.”
