Councilmember Bonin launches San Vicente Walkability Project.

San Vicente Boulevard is one of the signatures of Brentwood, lined with coral trees and frequented by joggers running through the grassy median. Often, however, the ground gets a bit muddy, roots from trees poke through the grass presenting a hazard and waste ends up scattered in area due to lack of bins.

The City of Los Angeles, recognizing these concerns and the importance of San Vicente Boulevard to the identity of Brentwood, is using funds to give the street a makeover.

“San Vicente Boulevard is a vital community corridor that runs through the heart of the neighborhood and features great shops, restaurants and places for neighbors to gather and enjoy – and Mike [Bonin] is working with neighbors to make it an even better and safer place for all,” said Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin who represents Brentwood, in his Neighborhoods First newsletter.

Working with the Brentwood Community Council (BCC) Traffic subcommittee, and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), Bonin recently launched the San Vicente Walkability Project – a community effort to focus on public safety. In addition, the project will add public art and more trees to the San Vicente area. So far, the BCC Traffic Subcommittee, working with LADOT, has started forming a list of recommendations for median improvements, a walkability plan, recycling bin installation and utility box art for implementation along the San Vicente corridor.

“Mike is excited to work with neighbors and the city to create a safe, inviting, and beautiful area for Brentwood neighbors to enjoy,” the newsletter reads.

According to Bonin’s office, the project is still in its early phases, so stay tuned for more details.
