Tom Safran recently hosted a backyard fundraiser for Sheila Kuehl, candidate to replace Zev Yaroslavsky on the LA County Board of Supervisors. Kuehl is running against Bobby Shriver.

Kuehl, former teen TV star as “Zelda” on “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis,” grew up in Los Angeles, attended UCLA, and then Harvard Law School. She served in the California State Assembly and later State Senate. She said she believes her experience makes her the more qualified candidate.

“This is not an entry-level position,” she said, drawing a chuckle from the friendly crowd.

She said transportation, Children and Family Services, health care and providing city services for the 10 percent of Los Angeles County that isn’t incorporated would be her top priorities. She said she was well versed in issues of education and the environment and knew how to work well with fellow elected officials.

Kuehl said she felt lucky to be in this particular race.

She said the district is interested, interesting, smart and engaged.

Kuehl said she felt like she had momentum and that she felt good about her prospects in the upcoming November election.

Tom Safran has a lengthy history of hosting events at which candidates can meet Brentwood voters.
