Already a California State School of Character (SSOC), which qualified it to compete on the national level, the school will carry the NSOC designation for five years and become part of a national network of schools of character.
Brentwood School’s character education program, now in its 12th year, incorporates the standards of CEP’s Eleven Principles of Effective Character Education. Dedicated administration and faculty continue to strive to improve the program each year. Head of School, Dr. Michael Pratt, notes, “I am pleased that this prestigious award recognizes a central element in our mission: developing character in our students.â€
Founded in 1972, Brentwood School is a K-12 independent co-ed day school located on two campuses in the West Los Angeles, California, neighborhood of Brentwood.
CEP will honor the 2011 National Schools of Character at the National Forum on Character Education, to be held October 19 – 22 in San Francisco. After being named NSOC, schools serve as models and mentors, helping other educators transform their school cultures and improve academics and behavior.
