Threatening, Racist Emails Being Sent to UCLA Affiliates

Numerous reports of vulgar, racist emails UCLA police say

By Sam Catanzaro

UCLA officials say they have received numerous reports of vulgar and racist emails being sent to faculty and staff.

According to the UCLA Police Department, the email have been sent to UCLA and UCLA Health affiliates.

“The emails include vulgar racist phrases about members of the White, Black, Latino, and Jewish communities. The contents of the emails are unsettling and often contain a threat of violence occurring at UCLA,” police said.

According to UCLA Police, the sender of these emails has been identified as a male adult who is not affiliated with UCLA and is currently residing in a country outside of the United States.

“The threats that have been made by the subject are not credible and cannot be carried out. The subject is being monitored by multiple agencies in the United States as well as abroad,” police said. “The UCLA Police Department Threat Management Unit has been collaborating with other agencies on this investigation and the investigation remains ongoing.”

Police say the sender of the emails has used various email encryption websites and a large variety of usernames/aliases to send his messages.

If you receive an email or a message on a social media platform which you suspect is related to this individual, please contact: UCLA Police Department Threat Management at 310-794-6881 or the UCLA Police Department Anonymous Reporting Line at 310-794-5824 and refer to report #20-1877.
