In the early morning hours of September 21, a deadly accident took place on the 405 Freeway in Brentwood. One vehicle collided with the rear of a semi-truck trailer being towed by a big rig at approximately 4:45 a.m. near Skirball Drive, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Regrettably, the individual involved in the collision could not be revived by medical personnel. In light of the fatality, all southbound lanes of the 405 freeway were temporarily closed. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has identified the victim in the crash as Jarrett Townsend, a 42 male from Chatsworth. The crash is under investigation, according to KCAL 9.
Traffic was snarled for two hours after the accident, and the 405 freeway did not reopen until approximately 6:15 a.m. The northbound lanes of the 405 also backed up, and drivers did take the opportunity to get off the freeway to drive on Sepulveda Boulevard.
The traffic jam extended all the way back to the 118 Freeway, which is the northernmost freeway in the San Fernando Valley.
